Book Drop Now Open

We are pleased to announce that our exterior Book Drop is open weekdays to accept library materials.  The reopening of our Book Drop is part of our phased approach to continue to provide library services safely to our communities.  All library materials borrowed before the library closures are currently due on August 31st, 2020.

Please join the annual summer reading program

The Library’s Annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) began virtually on June 1.  The program runs from June 1 to Aug. 31, 2020.  This year, the San Diego Public Library Foundation is partnering with Intuit which will make a donation of $10,000 to support our libraries if certain SRP goals (200,000 hours or 200,000 books) are met. So please join to make sure we earn the donation!

As a reminder, the SRP is open to people of all ages—from babies and tots to teens and adults.  Even time spent reading to children counts.  (You can even log the time spent reading for oneself and each child being read to.)  There are prizes for all levels of participation.

WiFi now available

WiFi will be made available for use outside the building.  This is an effort to help bridge the “digital divide” in communities where internet access is less readily available.  Security guards will be used to enforce social distancing and discourage loitering (by those not there for WiFi or book pickup)

Contact-less Pickup Service

While libraries are closed for full service, San Diego Public Library provides resources to patrons online through our eLibrary as well as access to physical materials through our limited contact-less Pickup Service available:

Monday through Friday

10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

    • You can reserve most titles online or over the phone.  There is no fee for this service.
    • Once your hold is available, you will be notified via email.
    • Please refer to the hold pick up notice email for the deadline to pick up your items.
    • After that date, your item(s) will be placed back on the shelves.
