Charles Goldberg announced a gift for the new children’s area from Carol and Dennis Wilson.

He also said that there will be outreach tours of the new library in August and September before the branch is turned over to the city.

Charles showed a sketch of the recognition for the gift from Deborah Szekely in honor of her granddaughter. The gift is for the children’s area.

He said that there will also be a donors’ wall with names inscribed on acrylic panels located in the atrium entry of the new branch.

Charles added that the Foundation has contracted with the public relations firm M.G. Marketing which has worked on other non-profit campaigns.

Charles explained that the idea of a bridge to Florence School may be on the Board of Education agenda at their August meeting. Phyllis added that the Assistance League is also interested in this project. They are currently involved with Florence School.

Phyllis added that the pilot program for the Foundation administering our Friends records is fine with Corporate Friends, including dues structure changes.

Corporate Meeting:  Phyllis said that the last meeting was the same day as the Pride Parade which prevented her from traveling to the meeting. The minutes of the meeting show that the city granted $100,000 for library support, and $288,000 for security. Corporate passed a motion to give $5,000 for advocacy.

Corporate book sales have resumed after renovation of the space.

The annual Corporate meeting will be on Saturday, September 2nd at Central at 9:30 A.M.

Fundraising/Book sales: Michele Pieters reported that we had a very good sale last month. We are trying to sell as much as possible before the move to the new branch, but we do need some books to open the store after the move. We briefly discussed moving the books from the shed and whether the movers will move them.

Librarian’s report: Steve said that the Summer Reading Program is finished for this year. Final numbers will be available after the 15th.

We will be getting more branch security. A guard will be here every day in the afternoon until closing. At the new branch, we will have full time security and cameras in the branch and in the garage.

Steve said that the library will have a booth at the Festival of Books at Liberty Station on August 25th. The event will include author signings, crafts, and the announcement of the new One Book, One San Diego selection.

President’s report:

Old business: Phyllis said that the brick for San Ysidro, for which we paid $250.00,  will read “Friends of the MH-Hillcrest branch library.”

Phyllis submitted our plan to delay choosing naming opportunities.

New business: Don Rudesill, Michele Pieters, Alan Sparks, Marian Day and Phyllis won the lottery for the first tour of the new branch.

Phyllis provided an update from the bookstore committee which has met twice. There will be another meeting soon.
