Minutes of April 5th 2018 friends of Mission Hills-Hillcrest Branch Library Meeting

 The meeting was held at the Mission Hills Branch Library. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by Phyllis Marion, President. In attendance were Phyllis Marion, Nancy Carol Carter, Al Hoefer, Don Rudesill, Ruth Rudesill, Elaine Kalin, Marian Day, Michele Pieters, Alan Sparks, Christine Workman, and Steve Wheeler.

Minute- corrections added to previous meeting minutes moved Nancy Carter 2nd by Elaine.

Treasurer report- income for the month was $1,341.49 and expenses of $656.38.

Membership – Nancy Carter passed out membership forms to share with neighbors and stated forms were also going out to members on our list.

Programs – Steve listed Adult and Children’s programs coming up in April. The ordered Chrome books, provided by Chris Ward’s office, have arrived and will be first used for Rebecca’s Girls coding class.

Web site – Excellent pictures of new library progress have been added to site.

Corporate – A new/replacement secretary, Isabel Schechter, has been recruited for corporate. Four grants are being awarded for the John McCallister awards.  Planning is starting for the 40th anniversary of the umbrella Friends group.

Book sales – Delayed book sale because of threat of rain by one week and still made $299.00.

Librarians report – Plaques have been placed on self-check-out machines noting Friends money contribution toward their purchase and installation.  Jay Hill in encouraging Friends to help advocate for not eliminating Sunday hours. During the Summer Reading Program books will be substituted for toys as awards.  Friends may help improve selection and quality. Plan to eliminate fines looks as though it may be approved.  Mayor’s budget may contain money to keep Sunday hours. October 11th will be staff improvement day.  Library will be closed. Approved $300.00 For Children Cookie decorating event.   Moved by Nancy Carol Carter and seconded by Elaine.

Book store committee has met twice and has chosen Amazon procedures and logistics as first item to discuss.

Due to the expected number of absences, the group voted to cancel the May 3rd meeting.
