From Our Librarian

You’re invited to attend our free December events at the Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library (please see attached calendar). In addition to our normal weekly storytimes, Tinker Tuesdays, LEGO Power Hours, etc., we’ll have the following special events:

Adults

      • 12/10 (Sat.), 2:30 PM: San Diego Oasis Presentation: The Library of Congress. Learn about the history and role of the nation’s library, and see some of the interesting items in its collection.
      • 12/12 (Mon.), 5:30 PM: Library Master Plan Community Listening Session. This is your chance to share your input with Library Director Misty Jones and Library Foundation SD in person and will focus on this library location’s needs. Together with Library Foundation SD, we are developing a new master plan to provide a long-range vision for library buildings, technology, and program investments.
      • 12/17 (Sat.), 4:00 PM: Comedy & Open Mic at the Library. Invite your family and friends to join us for an afternoon of laughter and fun! Come to perform or just enjoy the show. All family-friendly performances are welcome, from stand-up comedy to spoken word and poetry. Host Aziza Gaouda has travelled all across the US, from New York to San Diego, sharing her story and making people laugh. If interested in performing, please email agaouda@gmail.com. A sign-up sheet will also be at the door. Due to limited capacity, the open mic will be first come, first served.
      • 12/27 (Tues.), Noon: Lunchtime Concert. Join us for a concert by one or more faculty members from Villa Musica, a nonprofit music education organization.

Kids

      • 12/3 (Sat.), 10:00 AM: Hullabaloo Holiday Concert. Kids and families are invited to dance and sing along to a few winter songs mixed in with favorite children’s songs.
      • 12/13 (Tues.), 5:00 PM: Holiday Crafts. Get in the spirit by creating your very own holiday card and other fun crafts at the Mission Hills Library Tinker Tuesday Event. We will use Silhouette Studio software and a Cameo cutter.  All materials will be provided at no cost. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
      • 12/16 (Fri.), 3:30 PM: Holiday Movie. Watch the movie Elf on the big screen in the Community Room.
      • 12/17 (Sat.), 1:00 PM: Cupcake Wars! Kids can decorate 2 cupcakes, each with a different theme. Registration is required for this popular event. Sign up on the online calendar or with library staff.

I hope you’ll be able to make it to one or more events.

Happy Holidays!

Steve
