Minutes of the Mission Hills/Hillcrest Library Friends Meeting

June 15, 2024

The meeting was held in meeting rooms of the Mission Hills/Hillcrest Harley and Bessie Knox Library. The meeting was called to order at 10:01 A.M. by Anne Box, President. An attendance list is at the end of the minutes.

Minutes: The minutes of the May 19, 2024, meeting were approved as submitted.

Financial: Don Rudesill reviewed the May, 2024 financial report. Bookstore sales in cash were $948.56, Square credit card sales were $647.02, Amazon sales were $972.47, Abe sales were $178.77. Interest income was $520.52 from CDs. Total income for the month was $3267.34.

Expenses for the month included $175.00 for advertising in the Uptown News. Other expenses were mainly for programs for children and adults. Total expenses for the month were $1514.24.

Our total in all accounts at the end of May was $162,955.90. Our total at the end of the previous month was $160,176.48.

Librarian’s report: Steve Wheeler provided the future programs and events:

June 26, Wednesday, 4:00 to 5:30 P.M. Paper Flower Craft. Open to ages 18 and up.

June 28, Friday, 4 to 5 P.M. Nora Dasnes, in person author event.

June 29, Saturday, 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Family Bike Safety. Parents and kids invited.

July 13, Saturday, 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. Summer Garden Swap. Bring what you can, take what you need.

Steve asked for $75.00 for the Garden Swap. Anne approved the amount.

Steve said that expenses for the month were all for performers.

Steve provided fund balances: Contracts and Performers has a negative balance of $4,885.00, Equipment and Supplies has a balance of $7,127.60, Materials has $18,302.15, Pool distribution was done, so the balance is zero. The unmatched Trust Fund has a balance of $10,466.93.

Steve said that Books for Incarcerated Patrons can accept donations of paperback books. They can be boxed for Steve.

Bookstore: Holly Murten said that they are still weeding Abe inventory. She also said that Susan Chenven will take over oversight of online processing. Holly thanked Al Hoefer for the Abe mention on our website.

Susan Chenven suggested a sheet music sale on the order of five for a dollar.

Pat Littell reminded everyone that we will have a Christmas in July sale of holiday materials.

Holly will send an email to attendees of the ALA Convention.

Website: Al Hoefer said that he added the Summer Reading Program to the website with a link to register online. He also added a bookstore area on the site. Al said that “Where’s Odi” is system wide.

Membership: Chuck said that we have one new membership that was matched. The match was difficult to track down, but it was eventually located.

Roundtable: Kim McDaniel said that she can help on the 26th after her shift.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 A.M.

The next meeting will be July 27 at 10:00 A.M.
