–     10/24    Olga by Bernhard Schlink

Monday, October 24 at 7:00 pm

Internationally bestselling author Bernhard Schlink stormed onto the U.S. literary scene when his book The Reader (1997) was selected as an Oprah pick and made into an Oscar-winning film featuring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet.  Since then, he has continued to write powerful and disquieting books that raise moral questions about Germany after WWII.

In partnership with Adventures By The Book, please join us for an in-person presentation at the Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library by internationally bestselling author Bernhard Schlink on his powerful novel Olga.  Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A, a book signing, and the opportunity to meet the author.

This event is free and open to the public.  Those who purchase a copy of Olga from the Library Shop SD in advance will receive preferred seating at the event and be first in the signing line afterward.  There is no purchase necessary to attend the event.

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE SAN DIEGO PADRES AMAZING PLAYOFF RUN THIS EVENT IS BEING MOVED TO THE MISSION HILLS-HILLCREST/KNOX LIBRARY TO AVOID CONFLICTING WITH A POTENTIAL GAME AT PETCO.  The Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library is located at 215 W Washington St, San Diego, CA 92103 and has underground parking with the same free two hours with validation as at the Central Library.

With the lower capacity of the Mission HIlls Branch we strongly recommend RSVPing in advance if you have not already done so.  All current RSVPs are still valid and your seat is guaranteed.  We apologize for the inconvenience and Go Padres!

From our Librarian

In addition to our usual story times, LEGO Power Hours, Tinker Tuesdays, board game times, book clubs, etc., I’d like to draw your attention to the following events:

Adults

      • Saturday, 10/1 (4:00 PM): Comedy & Open Mic at the Library. Invite your family and friends to join us for an afternoon of laughter and fun! Come to perform or just enjoy the show. All family-friendly performances are welcome, from stand-up comedy to spoken word and poetry. Host Aziza Gaouda has travelled all across the US, from New York to San Diego, sharing her story and making people laugh. If interested in performing, please email agaouda@gmail.com. A sign-up sheet will also be at the door. Due to limited capacity, the open mic will be first come, first served.
      • Saturday, 10/22 (2:30 PM): Aging in Place. In this San Diego Oasis presentation, learn about what you can do to your current living environment to make it more safe, comfortable, and livable as you age.
      • Tuesday, 10/25 (noon): Concert. Listened to beautiful music performed by a faculty member from the music education organization Villa Musica.
