Blackout Poetry

Monday,  April 11th through Saturday, april 16th
The Friends of the Library offers  a Blackout Poetry challenge for the week of April 11-16.
You can create your own blackout poem at a table in the library.
Materials and instructions will be available.  You have a chance to win a $50 gift certificate.

The winner chosen by San Diego poet Mark Ardagna was Alice Lowe.
Alice read her winning entry at the Open Mic event on Saturday, April 16th and was awarded a $50 gift certificate to the San Diego Central Library’s gift shop.
The three runner ups were Carmen Tucker, Dolores Valleri and Kurt Burns.
Some of the Blackout Poems are displayed at the library in the entrance area.
Poetry Month concludes with Poem in Your Pocket Day on Thursday, April 28.  Please bring a poem to share or take one of the poems available that day to share with friends and family.

Join us for an hour of creative self-expression.  Craft your own poems to share with other young poets and the San Diego Poetry Annual community.  This event is hosted by The Kids! Poetry Annual.  Ying Wu will lead writing activities that stimulate creativity and self-expression.  This workshop is free and open to children and youth ages 6-12.  Seating is limited so register soon!
